March Spotlight - Calli!

Let’s get to know Calli!

Hi Bee Friends,  I’m so excited for March.  It’s one of my favorite months of the year!  I grew up in Salt Lake City and am the oldest of 5.  I learned to quilt from my mom, Leslie Ison who has been a quilter for many years.  I fell in love with fabric as a girl, going with my mom to Gentler Times.  Gentler Times was a wonderful quilt shop in an old house in Salt Lake.  Mom worked and taught quilting classes there for many years.  She is an amazing quilter and teacher, and I feel very lucky to continue to learn from her.

I am a mom of three teenagers who are all in middle school.  My son is in 9th grade and my twin daughters are in 8th.  Maybe I shouldn’t say this too loud, but so far, I love being a mom of teenagers.  They are a lot of fun, interesting, and even inspiring to be around.  We enjoy skiing together as a family and the rest of the year is spent watching them play a lot of soccer.

Did you know that soccer and quilting go together?  I rarely leave for a game without having “halftime” hexies or other handwork projects.

In my spare time, I love to read or watch old Hitchcock movies with my girls.  I also love to cook and bake.  I love to be at home, but I also love to travel.  My favorite treats are hot homemade bread right out of the oven and good pie.

What do you like to do with your spare time?

for Calli and Sherri.

Hi Girls!  Today I am showing my two finishes.  Calli's pickle dish block (melon) and one of Sherri's scrappy trip around the world block (I made two but thought it would  be fun to save the other as a surprise - wink!)
I have to admit, I was afraid of the pickle dish pattern.  I was so worried that I might mess it up, since I have never sewn an arch before.  I read the instructions super carefully (more than once) and when it came time to sew, I used plenty of pins, then sewed at the speed of a turtle.  I loved every bit of it!  So much so, I nearly did a happy dance when I finished.  (wink)
Thank you so much Calli for stretching my skills and allowing me to sew something new!  I am so thankful for the lessons learned.

Calli's Pickledish Arcs

Has it really been a year
since we first started
Bee's Knees?
My how time has flown!
This is our last block scheduled together.
I just finished Calli's arcs
for her Pickledish block.
They were easy to do and a lot of fun to make.
The paper piecing helped to keep the arc together
at an even size, so the curves went together perfectly.
There wasn't enough fabric in my envelope to make
two arcs,
so I added in a little bit of my own Gracie scraps.
I hope my fabric additions are okay, Calli :)
It's been a delight to work with you ladies!
Thank you Sherri and Amy for
inviting me along!
