Calli's June Block

This was such a fun and refreshing block to do. I love that it's from the 1800's and I love the movement of it. It works perfect with the DS prints that you sent. Such a pretty quilt this will be! The one block is does not have a stain, it's just water from my iron. I just noticed it after uploading this to the blog!

Can't wait to see how this quilt comes together! Thanks for letting me be apart of it Calli! They are being mailed off today!

Happy fourth of July everyone!

June Halloween Mayhem!

Oh boy, oh boy, has it been a month and I apologize for not getting my stuff out to you sooner. It is on it's way!  It's been a bit chaotic around here and I just kept forgetting to pop these in the mail. Please forgive me and take your time in getting the blocks done.  Hopefully this will get you into the halloween mood and it will be fun for you to do!

Here is a view for you to see the Halloween blocks. I have it all pinned and in the order. the Bottom is the background fabric, the middle is the contrasting and the top is the fussy cut block. If you have time I'm having you do two blocks that are finished size 9" and unfinished 9.5". One is a nine patch and the other is a nine patch with using four half square triangles. My inspiration was this cute quilt I found on Pinterest. The left side of block is the Half Triangle block and the Right side is the nine patch block.

I love how simple these blocks turned out, but i'm doing mine a bit more scrappy with the different fabrics I have given you to use. Here is the diagram.

9 inch Block

Half Square Triange Star Block

I gave you 4 inch strips to trim to 3.5" and a block to fussy cut in the middle that will also be 3.5". I'm super excited to see how they all turn out. If you have only time to do one block please return the other so I can complete them for the quilt.

Note: Please let me know if you short on fabric for the Half Square Triangle star block and which one you may be short on. Thanks!

What size quilt block do you want your bee partners to make? (Give finished and unfinished measurements, just to be sure.)  The blocks are 9-1/2" unfinished (9" finished).

Can your partners use any of his/her own stash fabric to use in your quilt block? If so, are there any limitations?  Just use the fabric I have sent you. There should be plenty for each block.

Is there a specific color of thread (white/off white) you want your partners to sew with? Any light colored thread is fine.

Does your partners have to use at least a little bit of every fabric you send or can your partners decide?  Use the fabric I sent.

If your partners are super motivated and are able to make two blocks out of the fabric you send, would you accept more than one block from your partners?  If you have time to do both blocks I would love it, if you don't choose one and send the other one back so I can finish them up.

Do you want your partners to return any leftover larger size scraps to you when they return the completed blocks or can they keep them for their own scrap stash? If there is any large pieces leftover please send back so i can make some filter blocks if I need too. It's pretty specific to this quilt. Halloween scrappy.

If you have any questions, let me know! Thanks for participating in making this quilt fun, scrappy and happy!

XOXO,

Shari

Scrappy Trip Around for Sherri

I am so honored and so thrilled to have been invited to be among all you uber talented gals in the Bees Knees! Thanks so much for welcoming me into your hive. :)  I'm really looking forward to this next year!

Here is the 1st block I made for Sherri with her fabrics....
Bees Knees

I have had this quilt on my "I want to make" list... and now after making 2 blocks, I'm totally hooked, and hope, hope, hope I can make one for myself this year!

And here is a 2nd block I made for Sherri, using my own Christmas fabrics... I chose to use a few of the new "A Merry Little Christmas" fabrics from Riley Blake, that I picked up at Sample Spree @ Quilt Market...
Bees Knees

Sherri and I went to Sample Spree together and so I thought it would be fun to "commemorate" our shopping trip.

I can't wait to see the other Bees Knees blocks and Sherri's quilt when it's all done!

Happy Sewing!!! ooxx`jodi

for Calli and Sherri.

Hi Girls!  Today I am showing my two finishes.  Calli's pickle dish block (melon) and one of Sherri's scrappy trip around the world block (I made two but thought it would  be fun to save the other as a surprise - wink!)
I have to admit, I was afraid of the pickle dish pattern.  I was so worried that I might mess it up, since I have never sewn an arch before.  I read the instructions super carefully (more than once) and when it came time to sew, I used plenty of pins, then sewed at the speed of a turtle.  I loved every bit of it!  So much so, I nearly did a happy dance when I finished.  (wink)
Thank you so much Calli for stretching my skills and allowing me to sew something new!  I am so thankful for the lessons learned.

Embarrassing. (aka really, really, late.)

At least the block turned out cute.

It was fun to just sew without a plan, I haven't done that in a long time. Thanks for the fun, Erika!

IMPROV!

Back when I was little I used to make friendship bracelets out of embroidery floss. Everytime I would go to the store I would pick out my favorite colors. Turquoise, Yellow, Hot Pink, and Red. Over the years this color combo was bumped from my 'Favroites' list, however as of late it's been making a come back.

I was super excited when Erika told us the color combo for her blocks would be teal, yellow, and pink! I quickly searched through my stash and pulled a few scraps that matched the swatches she sent.

As with the other blocks, I had to throw in some of my own prints. See my little flamingo? I thought he would be a fun addition. I also used a pink 'urchin' strike-off that didn't make the final cut for the fabic collection but was a perfect match here.

This bee is SO FUN!  I have an absolute blast making the blocks each month. I can't wait to see what's up for next month!

HAPPY SEWING!

bumped out of the nest.

I finished Erika's improve June block and will be putting it in the mail this afternoon.  The improv proved a challenge for me because I am one of those a-type girls who uses a pattern, cuts carefully after measuring a dozen times, and I jump off with a plan ... you know the type.  But this month's block pushed me out of my comfort zone.  And Erika. I want to give you a great big thank you!  Thank you for letting me play with your fun fabrics and create something unique for your quilt!  It was so much fun to see how your fabrics evolved into a block.  I can hardly wait to see the others!
