Sherri's Block

I finished my block of HST and Flying Geese a few days ago and had such a fun time making it!  I can't wait to see how the whole quilt comes together.  The blocks are all so wonderful and different.

Thanks Sherri to such a fun start for our Bee!   -Calli

Sherri's blocks

Blocks for Sherri.  After receiving my fabrics I suddenly had the urge to create a big sun out of Monica's wonderful print and a little cottage to go with it.
But then I wondered if it would be too much of a random outlier with all the other creations, so I came up with a simple star using the remaining fabrics. I promise I'm not trying to be an over achiever. :)  This quilt is turning out so cute! I love all the blocks so far. I can't wait to see what Sherri does with them.

Pinwheel Star

Sherri - I had so much fun making this cute block for you!

Flying geese, HST units, and quarter square units combine to make the sweet pattern.  I had so much fun I might eventually make a quilt with them!
I can't wait to see your quilt - Amy

I Love These Fabrics

Here is my first block for our group. I had been thinking about the
Summer Series blocks and had wanted to do that Greek Cross...
I love that block, but I got started playing  in my sewing room and came up with this
block. I held my breath the whole time because I had not stopped to figure
out the math and was just going on hope that it would be a 12 1/2 in unfinished block
when I was finished. I made an extra seam on the  large flying geese and
saved the cut off section as half sq. triangles... maybe those could be
worked in to another block at some point.
oh, and yes, it turned out to be the right size. Yeah!

Double Aster Block

I started looking through my pinterest quilts board looking for some more pinwheelish inspiration because it is one of my favorite blocks too. And then I saw this one and knew that it was the perfect combo of a star and a pinwheel. Well, I think so anyway. I hope you like it Sherri!

Double Aster block

The pattern is from quilterscache.com, it's called the Double Aster block. I love it in these bright fun fabrics! This is going to be such a fun quilt with all this Happy going on.

Greek Cross

I hope Sherri likes Greek Cross!

Even though she gave us several options to make her block, I too made Greek Cross out of the darling happy mochi yum yum she sent us.

It made me think of hosting a pot luck dinner, guessing that you will end up with a wide variety of foods, and everyone ends up bringing dessert.
Oh well, I've always liked dessert the best anyway.
Hopefully Sherri feels the same way about Greek Cross.

my very first bee block.

Here is a little glimpse at this month's bee block for Sherri.  I had so much fun creating it and can hardly wait until it arrives in her mail box.  Thanks so much Sherri for allowing us to play with your pretty fabrics!  I am dying to see your quilt all put together!

April Blocks...Some Ideas

First, can I just say this is the cutest blog design...from the polka dot sidebars to the banner and the button...I just love it!  I was so excited to put up a post with my ideas for my blocks...'cause that meant I got to post on this cute blog!

Either today or Monday everyone should be receiving some Moda Bella White (9900-97) and two fat eighths of Happy Mochi Yum Yum.  A fat quarter bundle of this line was my first purchase at Sample Spree last spring market...and I've been wanting to make a fun summer quilt with these fabrics ever since! I thought I'd give answers to the questions Amy Smart e-mailed us...and then give a couple more ideas for inspiration.

What size quilt block do you want your bee partners to make? (Give finished and unfinished measurements, just to be sure.) 12'' blocks please, 12 1/2'' unfinished

Can your partners use any of his/her own stash fabric to use in your quilt block? If so, are there any limitations? I would love for everyone to add something in...I think this is what will make the Bee a lot of fun...personalization from all the members!

Is there a specific color of thread (white/off white) you want your partners to sew with? This one is up to you!

Does your partners have to use at least a little bit of every fabric you send or can your partners decide?  I would really like both of the Happy Mochi Yum Yum prints used in the block.

Do you have a general theme or is it up to your partners to decide? Are there any specific themes that you do NOT want in your quilt block? Likes/dislikes? See Below.

Will you allow any embellishments on the quilt block (i.e. embroidery, raised items such as yo-yos or fabric origami)?  No embellishments, please...all pieced...thank you!

Can you link us to any flickr or Pinterest photos that you would like us to use as inspiration for your quilt block?  A few links are below.

If your partners are super motivated and are able to make two blocks out of the fabric you send, would you accept more than one block from your partners? Sure...I'm planning on a 16 block quilt--but please don't feel like you have to make anything extra...I know how busy everyone is!

Do you want your partners to return any leftover larger size scraps to you when they return the completed blocks or can they keep them for their own scrap stash?  No...please keep the scraps to add to your stash!

Okay...so here are just a few other ideas...I love stars and pinwheels and log cabins and houses... here are a few links that I had saved in my inspiration file as well.

Thanks so much...I look forward to getting to know everyone...and to making blocks each month!
Have a great Saturday!

You know it's going to be amazing!!!

I can't wait to get to know all of you talented sewists! It's going to be fun and exciting to work on each of your blocks and in return you can do the same for me. How cool is that!!! I must say, it's going to be fun, inspirational, and just getting to know each of you is exciting to me.

Oh and I sent you a badge in your email! This is the beginning of making this blog full of cuteness!
