Charlene's Log Cabin blocks

I made these log cabins for Charlene,
from the Christmas Swell line of fabric.
When I opened up her neatly folded bundle of fabric, I realized that all of the pieces were precut.
I just had to follow the numbers and the color diagram she sent.
Easy peasy!!!
This is going to be such a cheery Christmas quilt, I'm anxious to see it when it's finished :)

Charlene's Swell Christmas Log Cabins

Here are Charlene's November Log Cabin blocks. (I went ahead and made all four because I was running behind … then I logged in here to post them and found that everyone is apparently behind! It's good to be in good company!)

I adore the Swell Christmas fabric line, and it's perfect in these log cabins! My husband asked if we could keep them! (I actually think they would make great, quick and easy holiday pillows.)

These are going out to you today, Charlene! I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas!

Nedra's Double Plus Blocks

Nedra's Double Plus blocks are done and heading her way!

I love that this block was easy to sew, but the offset, different size crosses give it a little bit of excitement.

Thank you for sharing this block, Nedra! I think I'm going to use it to make a quilt to donate to the special needs' school my two little boys attend. I'm sure it will be a hit!

Melissa's Moroccan Lullaby

I really enjoyed the challenge of this block, and I love how it turned out! (This is my first block in the bee, and I got off to a late start. So sorry about that!)
I was a little nervous when I first read through the pattern, but looking at Melissa's finished block helped me to visualize the construction and the fabric layout. Once I got going, it came together without a hitch!
What a fun pattern! I can't wait to see all the blocks together!

Scrappy Double Plus Block

Hi Ladies!
I'm excited to be Host for October!
I have chosen to have you help me make the
Double Plus Block
which is relatively easy.
I've had this quilt on my To-Do List for
some time and have been
saving (hoarding!) my
Cotton & Steel Scraps and several other favorite designer Scraps
just for this project.
I also love all the interesting
Low Volume Neutral fabrics
 on the Market today and
think they make a fun combination
for Scrappiness!
This was a free pattern and Tutorial
by Wombat Quilts

https://wombatquilts.com/2017/11/01/double-plus-block/

The first step will be to make the small
Plus Block
out of those tiny 1 1/2" squares

I recommend pressing all the seams open
which will help the block lay flat.
Next just follow the layout on the
pattern I enclosed in your packet.
Because of the easy nature of the block,
I'm requesting you make 2 (thank you!)

If you have any questions,
please feel free to ask.

Introducing Melissa Corey!

I started quilting as a hobby in 2005 when my husband and I left home and moved cross country to go to school.  I made baby quilts for friends a a few large quilts over the next few years. In 2010 I discovered the online quilting world and I jumped into the deep end of the pool.  I started my blog, Happy Quilting and never dreamed it would open so many amazing opportunities for me. Because of it, I have now have the joy of creating my own designs that I share as tutorials, published works, a pattern line, and even my own book, Irish Chain Quilts.  I love designing and find inspiration in just about everything and anything. My sweetheart and I have been married for 18 years this December, we have five amazing children, and we live in beautiful Cedar City, Utah.
Who Inspired You? I am inspired by so many people around me each and every day.   But if you want a single person,it would be my mother. She is a wonderful women who I have always been able to look up.  She exemplifies all of the qualities that I want to have in my roles as wife and mother. We chat daily on the phone and I look forward to our conversations each and every day.   I love my Mother!!
What is the best concert or musical you have ever attended? I love Musicals.  I listen to a Pandora Broadway station every day and love to sing along, especially not that no one is home and I can sing really loud.   I have attended so many plays but I think my favorite was Wicked.
Where is your favorite place in the world? That is a tuff one as there are so many places that I still want to see.   But honestly, I think my favorite place is up Cedar Mountain at our family property because it always means being there with family and lots of fun and good food.
What is the last book you have read? I love to listen to books while quilting.   And I am a Young Adult Fantasty Fiction Junkie, especially if it is a series.  Although, it kills me to have to wait a year for next book to come out ;) You can find me on Goodreads under Melissa Corry to see all of the books I have been reading.  I just finished The Traitor's Game by Jennifer A Nielsen. I have loved her previous 2 series, and I think this one is going to be just as amazing.
What are you passionate about? Well. obviously quilting ;)  But I also love being outdoors with my family.  Like I said earlier, we have family property up Cedar Mountain and we love to spend time there ;)
What is your favorite movie? Wow, that is so hard to pick!!!   But the movie I tend to always choose when my husband is away on camps with the boys is Pride and Prejudice.  So I guess that is my favorite as it is my go to show ;) I can be pressing fabrics and watch because I have the whole thing pretty much memorized.  I know right when to look up to see when Mr. Darcy holds hands with Miss Elizabeth ;)
What is the craziest thing you have ever done? I don't know about Crazy, but probably a little shocking.   I used to get paid by fellow students to burp the alphabet in middle school.  They would buy me treats if I could get all the way from A-Z and let's just say, I got a lot of treats :)  Ya, I was quite the lady.
What is your Netflix go to? I know, crazy,  but I don't have Netflix.   But I do like Food Network.
What Is your secret talent know one knows about? Besides the burping, Just kidding ;)    I am a pretty good baker when I made time for it, especially pies.   I mastered my mother's pie crust recipe a few years back and now it's my job to make the Thanksgiving pies each year for the big family gatherings ;)  And my daughter is really starting to get into baking, so now we can enjoy baking together, and that makes we want to make a lot more time for treat making.  I also love to make homemade chocolates at Christmas. It has been a family tradition for years and I love that my kids are getting old enough now to really get in and make right along side me ;)
Melissa shared one of her favorite recipes. Perfect for fall don’t you think!

Melissa's "Moroccan Lullaby" block

I finished Melissa's block and really love it!
I bet it will look so cute all put together in a quilt.
This is the first Bees Knees block I've made since my move from California to Arizona.
I have a desert scape backyard with some pretty Palo Verde trees where I can hang my blocks to photograph them :)

It took me a little bit to figure out the block, but looking at the photo of the finished block on the previous post was very helpful.

Thanks so much for the pattern Melissa!
Love,
you fellow bee member Cynthia

September Block - Moroccan Lullaby

I am so super excited to be kicking off a new year of the Bees Knees!!!  I can't wait to sew with you all this year.   And to start it off, we will be making blocks from my Moroccan Lullaby pattern.   I designed this quilt as a gift for my SIL's birthday, and she has the original.  But since I teach this pattern, I need a class sample.   And I feel bad every time I  teach this class having to borrow her bedspread,  So I decided it was high time to make a new sample for class.    And I am so excited to have you all helping me ;)

And this time, we are going to be making the blocks with a super fun Low Volume
background!!!  And I can't wait.  I have cut all the pieces you will need from your
block from a variety of Corey Yoder fabric lines.   So as soon as you get your pack
in the mail you will be ready to start sewing.

I have emailed you each a PDF copy of Moroccan Lullaby pattern so you have the
instructions for making the block.  With your fabric is also a copy of the Lattice
Template for trimming already printed.   The pattern is pretty easy to follow, just
take note of these few important fabric placements.

***The Grey background flower print is your Criss Cross fabric.
***The Red,Yellow, or Blue background flower print is the Assorted Block Print
***The Low Volume prints are your Background Fabric
*** When sewing your Print Lattice Units, you will use two different kinds of low
volumes on either side of your unit.  One side sew a matching fabric of your large
center square triangle and on the other side sew a random color line triangle.
See the picture below to clarify ;)

Then the only other fabric placement to watch is when you are making your
Side Units, be sure the matching fabric of your large center square triangles
are on the bottom of the Lattice Unit as shown below.

This will make it so the center of the block is all one low volume background
print and the outside of the block is a mixture of low volume stripe prints.
So fun!!!   If you have any questions on this layout or the pattern, don't hesitate
to email me at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com

I am so super excited and can't wait to make up this new quilt!!!!  Here are all the details:

Bee Block Questionnaire

What size quilt block do you want your bee partners to make?
 20 1/2" x 20 1/2" unfinished and 20" x 20" finished

Can your partners use any of their own stash fabric to use in your quilt block?
If so, are there any limitations?  Please just use the fabric sent ;)

Is there a specific color of thread (white/off white) you want your partners to sew with?
White is great

Do your partners have to use at least a little bit of every fabric you send ?
You will need to use all the fabric sent to have enough ;)

Do you have a general theme or is it up to your partners to decide?
Just the Moroccan Lullaby Block ;)

Will you allow any embellishments on the quilt block?
No thanks, not this time ;)

Can you link us to any photos that you would like us to use as inspiration for your quilt block?

If your partners are super motivated and are able to make two blocks out of the fabric you send.
Nope, there is just enough for 1, and it is big enough to keep you busy I am sure :)
And that's about it ;)  I am so super excited and thank you so much in advance!!!!  If you have any questions at all on the block don't hesitate to email me ;)
And for my question to answer when you post your block . . .
I love to listen to YA Fiction, especially fantasy series when I am quilting.
Do you have a book or series you would recommend in that genre???

Edit - I have no idea why this whole thing typed in caps lock. The formatting is all crazy.

I tried to fix it best I could. Sorry about that.

Lone Star Block

Here is the block for Corey! It was fun to challenge myself with 45 degree cuts with the rulers
and I enlisted my husband to help me make sure I was doing
it correctly since I felt like I wasn't getting the hang of it at first.

Must have been holiday brain but the instructions were a bit confusing till I looked at the picture more closely and got the same ruler out that she used in the tutorial.

Lone Star is fun block to put together and I can't wait to see the quilt come together! I love how you chose your fabrics for the block! It really makes them pop with the background too!

Happy Sewing! XOXO!
